The Show Guy’s Weekender: Cape Town

The Show GUy Header

The Script’s anthems are still pumping through my veins after Sunday’s show, but for most people the only thing on their minds is Valentine’s Day… that overrated, media-fuelled, I-have-to-buy-something-for-the-one-I-love-because-the-TV-told-me-so “day of love.”  Don’t be boring, take him/her out for a good time!

Ultra South Africa

Friday 13 February 2015

Ostrich Farm, Van Schoorsdrif Road, Philadelphia off the N7

I’M SO EXCITED!!!  Ultra was amazing last year and Armin is finally coming back to Cape Town so I can see him again!  You cannot miss this.  This is the BIGGEST dance festival our country has ever seen. Also on the bill are Axwell Ingrosso, Hardwell, and that animal Martin Garrix.  Goldfish continue their Ultra career and Black Coffee, Euphonik, DJ Fresh, Kent, Protoculture and Roger Goode spice up the local line-up. There isn’t much I can say about this, just trust me and watch the aftermovie.  I… simply… can’t…. deal!

Tickets online. R950 – R1,500 full weekend pass.

Fokofpolisiekar – Craft Punk

Friday 13 February 2015

The Assembly,  Harrington Street, CBD

The new venture in the FPK legacy is the release of the first of four craft beers, a 440ml Blonde Ale called Dagdronk (named after one of their songs). It will only be sold in boxes of 16 beers at R640 and orders can be placed on their website.  To celebrate the launch, they are doing 3 shows in places where lots of beer is consumed on a regular basis, including one of my favourite spots to watch them live, The Assembly!  They will be supported by their friends De Wallen.

Tickets. R50 – R60 online. R80 at the door.

The Red Telephone – Carnival Toyland

Saturday 14 February 2015

Toyland (directions on FB page)

You can literally go to an outdoor party every Saturday in Summer, and The Red Telephone takes it all the way into Sunday afternoon with 30 hours of music including Dean Fuel, Malcolm Skene, Zuluboy, Danalog, Dan Scot, Rubix Qube and more, combining different genres on 1 dance floor.  Besides dancing your little feet off, go hiking, biking, swimming, play volleyball, and contribute to the vibe of this incredible outdoor adventure.

Tickets online. R250.

Valentine’s Sunset Concert

Saturday 14 February 2015

Hillcrest Quarry, Durbanville.

Let’s face it, a dinner date at a fancy restaurant is pretty much the lamest thing you can do for Valentine’s Day and is about as romantic as farting in an elevator. Get outside and watch the sunset with live music as your soundtrack. Just Jinjer needs no introduction and no talking up from my side so I’m just going to say that they’re on the bill. The Swingsetters however is a band I haven’t seen but I’m intrigued. Described as an eight piece band from Cape Town’s “deep south” with a sound that’s a mix of swing, blues and rock n roll, they sound perfect to get you off your picnic blanket and dancing with your better half.  Singles, fear not. José Cuervo’s got you covered, with a special singles area where you can party exclusively and possibly meet that special someone.  What better way to get you chatting away than a few tequilas?

Tickets online. R150.

If you have tickets to Passenger at Kirstenbosch on Sunday, have a good one!  Those tickets have been sold out for weeks!

Well, those are my #ShowGuyPick’s for the weekend in Cape Town. For more events, check out www.theshowguy.co.za.

Have a good one!!
